So last month's update brought us a cornucopia of new spells and abilities as well as a host of new weapons and armor to go along with our new-found power. However, one thing stands out in my mind: was this done too late? I just can't help but feel that this is "a day late and a dollar short" so to speak. I don't like the direction this game's headed. When does one say enough is enough?
In the case of BLU, it has turned us into a "second-class RDM" so to speak. Moreover, does SE expect some jobs (like BLU) to level up by doing magian trials by the boatload? Some jobs have many invaluable pieces of cutlery that originate from this stuff. However, these things are really turning into "standard issue" for a lot of jobs. The once coveted valkyrie forks have seemingly become town gear because of this. Granted a few of these are reasonable, but some of these make you wonder just what SE was smoking. 200 flans? Give me a goddamn break! Granted in some cases this can be worked around. For example, a BLU who is doing the STR sword path may have RDM and volunteer as a refresh whore for some BLMs blowing up puddings in Mount Zhayolm. The only thing these magian paths really offer is a hedge against obsolescence.
Back on the subject of jobs, the rising level caps mean a chance for those in "lolJOB" status to come out of that hole. Or it could backfire and even further cement them into that position. On top of that, as the months wear on, more people will be discouraged from taking up new jobs. I know it's turned me off from doing such a thing. Even then, there's still the chance your desired job will be excluded from engaging in many activities with others.
So the duration of this game's lifespan is "get all your jobs to (insert new cap here) every three or so months and keep up with killing obscene amounts of EP mobs." I seriously doubt they gave as much thought to the ramifications of these changes as they'd claimed. But I suppose that is to be expected of a game that's been in service for nearly a decade.
So, what was left that I hadn't done yet?
Finish the last Zilart mission and Apocalypse Nigh
Finish the Treasures of Aht Uhrgan missions
Reach rank 10 in one of the three kingdoms
Obtain the last two pieces of homam which are more or less on the brink of obsolescence
Finish some WoG missions which no one really cares about.
My life is none the worse for not having done these things. Abyssea was a step in the right direction I'll concede that much.
I'll still pop online from time to time over the remainder of the month. But after the 31st, it's all over.
Thank you to the wonderful people I've met over the past three years. Perhaps our paths will cross again in Eorzea. And to you vultures out there, no you cannot have my stuff. It goes with me like an ancient Egyptian pharaoh.
Had enough? So, you're human after all. The torture will stop as I promised.
But I'll take the woman in return. I'll have my fun with her...
...Before I kill her.
I hope you can still look at yourself in the mirror, my friend.
